Aga-Boom in Tenerife – The Shows (October 20-23)

Once again, leaving Lithuania requires me getting up ridiculously early. This time it was the need to get to Vilnius airport by a little past 6am for an 8:10 flight, which, after changing planes twice, would ultimately land me in Tenerife later that day where I would meet up with the rest of the Aga-Boom gang for a series of shows in the FIC clown festival. The nice thing, though, was that I had a ride this time. Simas, Monika’s brother, kindly offered to give me a lift, so he was at our place at 5. So, while Rasa and Monki slept, I headed out the door for a 6 day trip. Continue reading “Aga-Boom in Tenerife – The Shows (October 20-23)”
Aga-Boom in Spain
For those of you wondering what it is I do when I run away with the clowns… here’s a good overview. What a great office to have.
Kuwait – Show days
We really started our work on the 28th of February. After resting from long flights and taking in the sites, we headed to the theatre to get down to business. The theatre is a government owned place, and the home of the Sesame Street show, which, it turns out, would be the source of a few technical hiccoughs. Continue reading “Kuwait – Show days”

Just clowning around…Lisbon (11/28-12/5)
Almost two years ago, through a weird series of connections and circumstances, I ended up tech-ing a clown show called Aga-Boom, which was performing in the Vilnius Comedy festival. Long story short I became friends with the principles, Iryna and Dimitri (and Jesse, who is also in the show and with whom I have many mutual friends from many different facets of my life) and several weeks ago, they asked if I could tech their upcoming run in Lisbon, Portugal. On the plus side, I’d never been to Portugal, it was decent money, and I always love working in theatre. The down side was that it was a three-week gig at the end of the semester and with Monki only 4 1/2 months old I would miss her 5 month check up (this after missing her 1 month for a gig in Vegas) and three weeks is a long time away from family. “Adults-Only” Puppet Show | David Magazine
This is What Happens When Two Genres Collide, Puppetry Meet Improv.
Yeah… so one of the pieces I did this month was about puppets and improv – but even better, I got to interview two of my friends and gush about what an amazing show they’re doing!
The 30 Best Movies About The Theater
There’s nothing like a good theatre experience. And if you can’t make it out to see something live, then a film is the next best thing.
And if you can watch a movie about the theatre? Heaven!

DAVID: Sense – The Impresario of Vegas
This month, we take a look at Troy Heard, creative director of Table 8 Productions and The Onyx Theatre.
He’s doing amazing stuff in the world of Vegas theatre, helping to build our scene and culture. Remember, there’s more to live performance than the Strip and the Smith Center.
Thinking in and about English on a Sunday Morning
You know, Shakespeare didn’t always sound like Shakespeare. Sometimes he sounded like a pirate. And in fact, just for good measure, English didn’t always sound like English.
Anyway, here’s a couple of videos to get your brain working. Continue reading “Thinking in and about English on a Sunday Morning”
DAVID • Think: The Riot of Spring
One of the great things about my job is I get to learn all sorts of new things. Had no idea that Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring” was so controversial when it was first produced.
What? You didn’t know either? Well read my latest David article to find out what all the fuss was about!

Medusa’s Web by Tim Powers
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars
Okay, so I’m a Tim Powers fan. I will read everything the man writes and eagerly anticipate the next one. That said, this isn’t the book to start with. The plot, as Powersian as ever, involves a brother and sister who stand to inherit the home which belonged to a relative who raised them after their parents passed away some years earlier. The house has connections (literal and figurative) to the golden years of Hollywood and, like all of Powers’ books of the last couple of decades, involves real life figures and events weaved into an intricately plotted web of fantasy and magic.

Reimagining London 2016
One of the great things about living centrally located in Europe is that nothing is very far away – and generally not that expensive to get to. If you’re like Monika, you can find amazing deals (she boasts about a roundtrip from Sweden to Italy, via Frankfurt, for little more than a euro each way). But even if you don’t have her luck, you can get some pretty amazing deals which allow you to see new countries or revisit old ones. Continue reading “Reimagining London 2016”
David Bowie 1947-2016

David Bowie died.
He was probably my first rock and roll hero. I remember seeing him sing Space Oddity on some early 70s TV show, then seeking out the song, finding it on cassette on ChangesOneBowie. From there it wasn’t hard to pick up the albums which had come before and stick with the man through permutations and variations. I identified with him. He was the ultimate shapeshifter, able to morph into whatever guise was required at the time. I knew I wasn’t alone in this, but it wasn’t until yesterday, when news of his death was made known that I realized just how many people identified with him.
