He kept his Star Wars legacy a secret in Boulder for decades. At 85, the sci-fi pioneer is ready to step out. — The Know from The Denver Post

This is an amazing story! Holy crap the things this guy has done and how much he’s been an invisible part of my life, childhood and overall creative development!

My takeaway though, is this line:

“Colin told me one time that this is the way he went through life, that he liked to create things that people couldn’t un-think,” Dall said. “That’s how he got into a lot of things: he would come up with such original, creative and intelligent ideas that people would look at it and then they couldn’t go back.”

And if you want a piece of signed artwork, check out Colin Cantwell’s own website.

A Virtuoso Graphic Novel, Painted While in Hiding From the Nazis | Literary Hub

Charlotte Salomon (1917-1943) was the last Jewish student at the Berlin Fine Arts Academy. The danger for her had become so great by late 1938 that her family decided to get her out of Germany.

This is an amazing, and sad and angering, story. What sucks is we’re STILL learning the extent of the damage done to the arts and sciences some 70 years after the fact.

What a different world we might have had.

Virtual Reality is really real (but not really)

maxresdefaultHoly crap! I just tried a virtual reality rig for the first time.  My friend Simonas has a complete set up and has been asking me to come try to out for a while. He’s been telling me about VR truck driving and air traffic controlling but honestly, I didn’t really get what all the fuss was about.  Continue reading “Virtual Reality is really real (but not really)”

The Postcard Dilemma

resize_400x400_seniI love postcards. I’m a fan in general of souvenirs but nine times out of ten or even 99/100 if I buy anything at all, it’s postcards. When I travel, I tend to get postcards everywhere then spend my time in the evenings at local bars or coffee shops (or on trains or busses) writing them out and sending them from my next stop.  Continue reading “The Postcard Dilemma”

Steve Valentine’s – MAGIC ON THE GO

Okay, so you all know I am an aficionado of the magical arts. That is to say, I loves me a good card trick. I also really enjoy learning the methods and the  psychology behind a great performance of magic as well. This was often the focus of the many articles I wrote for Magic Magazine over the years.

And now, Steve Valentine, twice awarded by the Magic Castle (lecturer and close-up magician of the year), has started Magic on the Go, a kinda “Netflix of magic” so if you’ve ever wanted to learn from one of the best, now’s your chance.

The Shape of Stories

I use the Vonnegut clip which ends this piece all the time in writing classes. It’s fascinating in that we absolutely can map the arc, but it’s the details where it all gets interesting.

Plus, they use a Čiurlionis image in the header, which is just cool!
