“It doesn’t have to be good, it only has to be finished.”

Typewriter - logo (color)Yesterday I did something I haven’t done in quite a while – I finished an original script (first draft) for a TV pilot. 60 pages written in 23 days, from starting the outline to typing “Fade Out.” In those 23 days, I wrote a total of 16,514 words – in addition to the script, I wrote two lengthy blog posts, an original short story for David Magazine (which will be out on September 1) and a book review.

Now, the blogs and reviews, I do those with regularity, so no need to mention them in any detail but the other two, that’s what I want to talk about, for my own sake, not necessarily for any one else’s.  Continue reading ““It doesn’t have to be good, it only has to be finished.””

DAVID • Think: What’s Next Kids?

David june 14DAVID • Think: What’s Next Kids?.

Here’s my latest piece for David Magazine. My thoughts on what a commencement speech should say and do.

For all of my students who are graduating, for anyone who is in school or university now and looking forward to the day when they can wear the cap and gown and for everyone who has already crossed that stage and shook hands while receiving their diploma, this is for you.

And for everyone else about to enjoy the summer, there’s other great articles in here for you, too!

Why understanding grammar matters…

#Randbrackets, The Fun New Out-Of-Context Game

You want to know why education is important and why not understanding grammar is a bad thing? Here’s a great example for you. Look at those brackets in the above quote attributed to President Obama. Those mean something. Do you know what? They are not there for emphasis, they are not there to highlight the words within. Continue reading “Why understanding grammar matters…”

DAVID Magazine: Paparazzi Me

David may 14My latest article for David Magazine is here.

This is the one I was talking about when I posted recently about the infamous Ellen Selfie.

There’s all sorts of other great stuff in this month’s issue, which marks 4 years of publication this month.

So, congratulations to Max and Joanne, Steve and Brianna and everyone else involved with putting out this consistently entertaining and award winning magazine!

Ownership of that Famous Selfie

selfie at the OscarsA few months back, almost a year ago now, I wrote a piece for David Magazine called “Yours or Mine” about Intellectual Property copyright law and who owns what and how that gets determined.

Today, while researching another article for David, I came across this piece from The Wire: Paging Bradley Cooper’s Lawyers: He Might Own Ellen’s Famous Oscar Selfie. It’s a fascinating look at the legal and real world implications of what modern technological trends are doing to IP. Especially when the picture in question can carry a price tag of upwards of $1 Billion US.

DAVID • Think: Linor’s Story

This month’s piece in David (click the cover for the complete issue) feature’s a former Israeli beauty queen who survived a brutal attack and has not only survived, but is thriving as a lawyer and victim’s rights advocate. Linor Abargil‘s story is amazing and inspiring (and just for fun, she has a Lithuanian connection as well – her ex is Šarūnas Jasikevičius)

Additionally in this issue is the work of Gerda Liesiene, a Lithuanian journalist who’s piece on setting good habits is a fun way to start the year.

Enjoy the magazine and Happy New Year!

Spirits of Ireland – Day nine in Dublin

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThis is where that little surprise comes in. I was all set to call it quits after Liverpool and was resigned to a long train ride back to Edinburgh but Jennifer had other plans. She had done her research (she’s good at that) and discovered we could fly from Liverpool to Dublin, spend the day in Ireland and then fly back to Edinburgh that night with plenty of time to spare to make the 6:30am flight back to Kaunas. All of a sudden our trip became 4 cities, 3 countries, 2 plays and 1 knight! I was beyond stoked! Continue reading “Spirits of Ireland – Day nine in Dublin”
