13 Secrets of Rare Book Dealers | Mental Floss

Hi.

I’m Jaq…and I’m a book collector.

<hi Jaq>

I’ve documented how I became a book collector previously so I don’t need to go over that again, but since it’s something which interests me, I figured I’d pass along some other cool info. See, it’s gotten to the point now where, if I’m depressed, I go and look up books I want. Rasa always knows, if she says “What are you doing?” and I respond “Something I shouldn’t be” she knows I’m on some bookseller or others website, looking at condition and checking my savings account.

But in the meantime, back when I worked at Bauman Rare Books, our manager was Rebecca Romney, who has since gone on to fame and great acclaim as the “book expert” on Pawn Stars (Interestingly, when I interviewed the Rick from the show for an article, I recommended Rebecca, unaware they were already using her). She’s written a book about mistakes in printing and publishing called Printer’s Error and, the reason for this blog post, she wrote a great article on the 13 Secrets of Rare Book Dealers.
