Visiting Friends – 2017 Summer Holiday

Wednesday-Friday July 5-7

Dad and MonkiThe next three days were a blur of seeing friends and doing things around the house with the parents.

Wednesday, I got up early to go shopping with dad. We hit several different stores, including Walmart. I ended up getting a few more things than I originally intended to and got gently ribbed for it. I can’t help it! Continue reading

1978/2017 Spider-Man Calendar Desktop Wallpapers – Andertoons Cartoon Blog

Mark Anderson, who is a great cartoonist and prime level geek, realizing the cyclical nature of calendars decided to scan his old superhero yearly markers for everyone to enjoy. This year, it’s the 1978 Amazing Spider-Man edition he’s gracing us with. In the past, it’s been the 20th anniversary of Marvel and DC Super Powers (and then there was the amazing superhero Valentine’s day cards). Anyway… enjoy. And when you get a chance, thank Mr. Anderson for what he’s doing!

2015/1981 Marvel Desktop Wallpaper Calendar | Andertoons Cartoon Blog

This is incredibly cool! Due to the cyclical nature of, you know, the laws of the physical universe, there are only a handful of different variations on the annual calendar. It so happens that this year, 2015, matches up perfectly with 1981. 1981 when Marvel comics put out an absolutely brilliant calendar featuring all their heavy hitters.

Artist Mark Anderson decided to scan the pages for his own calendar this year. Then he generously made the scans available to others (Thank you!!). Anyone want to go in on a piece for your own wall?

Spider-Man: The Gathering of the Sinister Six
Spider-Man: The Gathering of the Sinister Six by Adam-Troy Castro
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’m not sure if I’ve ever actually read a prose version of an actual comic character which wasn’t a novelization of a film (I read the original Superman novel back in the 70s) but I love comics (and this book was written by Adam-Troy Castro, an acquaintance) so I figured I’d give it a shot. Review: Spider-Man 3

I think, somewhere deep in the bowels of Hollywood, there’s a guidebook for the third installment of superhero movies. It says you have to take everything good from the first two films and since it worked, you add more of it. You make it bigger, better and more overdone. Unfortunately, Sam Raimi received a copy of this guide and held to it while making the latest installment of the incredibly successful Spider-Man franchise. Continue reading
