Took Laika for his morning walk and the fog was thick, making for a nice soft background. And he was kind enough to pose for me.

Now, Monika and I have travelled together a few times and she knows of my passion for picture taking. How to Gift an Ebook
Not that I’m hinting about anything (although my own wish list is here) but for anyone who might like a book for the holiday this is a great way to go!
‘Tis the gift giving season, and a question we’re getting asked by family and friends is how do you give an ebook as a gift? You can’t pop it in a box and wrap it. You could give a gift card, sure, but what if you want something more personal or precise? What if you want to give someone a copy of this one great book you just read?
It’s easy: there’s a button, we tell our loved ones. And our loved ones look at us skeptically and consider revoking their previously bestowed title of She-Who-Is-An-Expert-In-All-Things-Book-and-Ebook.

Two Crazy People in Tallinn

…and fish
Couple of bits of background are going to be needed here… The first is that my friend Monika gave me, for my birthday, a book of 100 places to visit in Lithuania and a red stuffed goldfish with the admonition that I had until my next birthday, July 13th for those of you keeping track, to take a picture of the fish in as many of the 100 locations as possible. She gave her brother the same book (in Lithuanian) and a yellow crab with the same directive.
The second thing you need to know is another friend, Annie, whom I have known for almost 35 years, is visiting from Australia with her partner Brad. The started their trip in Torino, Italy, where Brad was participating in a Beach Volleyball Tournament and then headed up to Kaunas earlier in the week to hang out and visit and see Lithuania.

Wednesday morning came bright and early. We’d decided to try our hand at getting to the distillery we’d gotten information about from The Whiskey Experience so we headed down to try and find the bus stop for this once an hour transport. We weren’t having much luck. By the time we thought we’d found it and it was supposed to arrive, we’d actually decided on a different plan altogether.

Hop on – Day one in Scotland
Meeting Jennifer and getting to our hostel wasn’t much of an adventure. It was fairly easy to find the bus to take us into town and then a nice gentleman, who was walking our way anyway, showed us where our hostel was. Where we were staying, the Belford Hostel, is located in an old church (and more on that later). We dropped off our bags and headed back out (It was early, so we couldn’t even check in yet) to explore the city. Jennifer had been here before so she was a font of knowledge as we walked around. My mother has a 46 year old son
My birthday celebration really started on Friday when I saw some friends and got some nice gifts and cards and a visit from my friend Anna from Budapest. I also saw Pacific Rim, but I slept through a good deal of it so no review just yet.

Macbeth
On July 20th, My friend Jennifer and myself will be in Manchester to see Kenneth Branagh once again take to the Shakespearian stage for the first time in 10 years playing Macbeth. Needless to say, I’m very excited! For not only is it Sir Ken, but playing Lady Macbeth is Alex Kingston (who speaks about here). This is also quite cool because as Whovian, how awesome is it to see Dr. River Song live an in person?
Of course, this is par for Jennifer and I. The last time we got together in the UK the entire trip was filled with Dr. Who references and sightings. And this voyage to Manchester will be coming on the heels of 5 days spent in Edinburgh where we’ll be seeing the sights and looking for monsters. And it’s also the legendary home of, you guessed it… Macbeth. Gotta love theme vacations!
Barcelona Day Two
Wednesday morning and breakfast was again the same bread and juice and coffee assortment. I learned to say “poqueto leche” (I learned to say it, not sure I learned how to spell it) in order to get just a little milk in my coffee and enjoyed my morning meal with Holly while we made plans for the day. Our first stop, once we headed into town, was the Miro exhibit at the Barcelona museum of history…or maybe it was the museum of Barcelona history? Either way, we walked there from Placa Catalyuna and it was down by the harbor. I’d seen it the night before and knew that I could get in free with my ITIC card so it was good for me. Barcelona Day One
Like all trips I’ve been taking recently, this one started with a preliminary trip. This is the hazard of not having a car (or any vehicle, really). So this trip to Barcelona started out with a train ride to Vilnius and then a second train from the Vilnius train station to the airport. Not a big deal and the Vilnius airport is fairly small and easy to navigate so there weren’t any problems until it came time to actually board the plane. Continue reading “Barcelona Day One”
Hungarian Weekend
With my time in Hungary rapidly coming to an end, my friend Enikö took it upon herself to make sure I didn’t leave without seeing some of the best parts of the country. She’d already taken me for s day to Lake Balaton, which is the largest lake in Central Europe and known as the Hungarian Sea. During the Soviet occupation it was a prime tourist destination for a number of German and other Eastern European nationals and has retained a lot of it’s “seaside” flavor. Hvar and the Dalmatian Coast
Saturday we woke up early, packed up our belongings (we were moving apartments that night) and headed off to catch the ferry to Hvar (pronounced “Far” with a hard F), an island about 50km from Split, deep in the heart of the Adriatic. Okay… maybe not the ‘heart’ but certainly the pancreas! The ferry ride was an hour forty-five (about the same time it takes me to get to Budapest) amidst some incredibly beautiful islands and crystal clear blue-green ocean.
