Many years ago, back when I still lived in Vegas, I would hang out at Denny & Lee Magic shop on Saturday mornings with a bunch of great guys (who also happened to be magicians). One of them was Timm Metivier, who, a year ago, decided to open his own shop – not magic, but one for board games.

With a new season of The Expanse starting soon and having just finished watching the two existing (and impatiently awaiting the third) seasons of Killjoys, I found this an great article on where televised science fiction is heading. (Seriously, if you haven’t watched Killjoys, it’s pure pulp SF fun!)
Over the last couple of seasons of television, critics and audiences have begun to pay a considerable amount of attention to the role of women and racial diversity on their favorite shows. Despite being set in the future, science fiction television has often been stubbornly stuck in the past. With its latest lineup, however, the Syfy channel has demonstrated that a proactive approach can create lasting change.

I guess 6 months marks a specific milestone in the little one’s development. At least it does for me. As you may or may not know, our dear Monki eats pretty well. Rasa makes all of her meals from scratch (not the Carl Sagan creating the universe type of scratch, but from raw materials). She’ll boil up grains and relatively fresh vegetables, get them nice and soft and then puree them into a baby friendly porridge by adding milk and heat (side note – if you want to do this at home, and you’re getting a hand blender, get the 700w model – the 520w just ain’t strong enough. Mark Anderson, who is a great cartoonist and prime level geek, realizing the cyclical nature of calendars decided to scan his old superhero yearly markers for everyone to enjoy. This year, it’s the 1978 Amazing Spider-Man edition he’s gracing us with. In the past, it’s been the 20th anniversary of Marvel and DC Super Powers (and then there were the amazing superhero Valentine’s day cards). Anyway… enjoy. And when you get a chance, thank Mr. Anderson for what he’s doing!
So we’ve finally reached the end of 2016 and are starting a whole new trip around the sun. I started writing a post about life and looking at things in retrospect, disseminating politics and personifying the year but honestly, who cares? Starting Monday, we were on our own for two days. We had packed up the show after the Sunday performance since we were moving for two shows to another theatre in another city later in the week. The thing about being here was that we weren’t exactly tourists, since we were working, but we weren’t exactly locals, since we were just visiting. So after doing our sightseeing during the first two weeks, going out and doing a tour just didn’t seem like the thing to do. But then, for me, sitting at home wasn’t the thing to do, either.
