fb-bye-byeLast Tuesday, I quit Facebook cold turkey. It was never intended to be forever and I’ll probably go back tomorrow or the next day, but I needed a break. I needed to get away from politics and the depressing place the world is becoming. I needed to cleanse the palette.

Once a week or so, I get together with Monika for coffee and to do some work. Our get togethers start with a catch-up of what’s been happening since the last time and then we settle in behind our own keyboards and get our stuff done. (Seriously, if you haven’t watched Killjoys, it’s pure pulp SF fun!)

Over the last couple of seasons of television, critics and audiences have begun to pay a considerable amount of attention to the role of women and racial diversity on their favorite shows. Despite being set in the future, science fiction television has often been stubbornly stuck in the past. With its latest lineup, however, the Syfy channel has demonstrated that a proactive approach can create lasting change.

Rasa makes all of her meals from scratch (not the Carl Sagan creating the universe type of scratch, but from raw materials). She’ll boil up grains and relatively fresh vegetables, get them nice and soft and then puree them into a baby friendly porridge by adding milk and heat (side note – if you want to do this at home, and you’re getting a hand blender, get the 700w model – the 520w just ain’t strong enough. Mark Anderson, who is a great cartoonist and prime level geek, realizing the cyclical nature of calendars decided to scan his old superhero yearly markers for everyone to enjoy. This year, it’s the 1978 Amazing Spider-Man edition he’s gracing us with. In the past, it’s been the 20th anniversary of Marvel and DC Super Powers (and then there were the amazing superhero Valentine’s day cards). Anyway… enjoy.
